One of the main attractions in Cappadocia is to experience a hot air balloon ride over the Fairy Chimneys that turn the landscape into something that you normally see only in sci-fi movies. Especially at sunrise, when most of the flights are scheduled, the views tend to be particularly spectacular. Tens of balloons start their majestic ride into the air, drifting slowly higher an higher with no rush and almost no sound.
There is however a “but”- the weather need to be perfect that morning, otherwise your flight is cancelled or postponed. By that they mean clear skies with no wind.
As you might have already guessed, there will be no photos from the balloons, as we didn’t have the weather on our side this time. The day we landed we weren’t (alright I wasn’t) sure whether we could still fit it in with our budget (it costs anywhere between 100-150 Euros per person for a 1 hour ride. Pretty steep!) and by the time we did decide for it, the weather gave way.
But even apart from that there are plenty of amazing places to visit in Cappadocia and here are our photos as proof that you don’t need to spend a small fortune to enjoy the scenery here.
ineffably beautiful, I’m amazed!
