Our trip to Syria this March was completed right on the brink of the start of the protests in the country. During our last few days in Damascus, we witnessed what looked like peaceful rallies both pro and anti government around the old city and around the Souk al Hamadeiya. It was only a day before these protests that these pictures were taken in the exact same areas.
Today 3 months later the scenario has changed to a great extent, with people fleeing to Turkey and Jordan. I wonder if the people we met and interacted with were still there at their stalls, or whether they’d left it all behind.

these pictures are just great!;), how come we’ve never seen them before:P did you have to ask every time to take them and were the people so willing to pose?
Hi Magda!
I’m glad you liked the pictures :)
The people were really friendly and surprisingly even though they didn’t speak any English, they were more than happy to pose!
Seriously, how come you never showed us any of those?
I was saving it to show them to you on the blog ;)
